Q. What material does OMNI use for mold bases?
A. OMNI uses only Edro RoyAlloy stainless steel. When you get a stainless steel mold base from OMNI you get "an all stainless frame". All of our plates are made of the same steel, not just the "A" and "B" plates.

Q. Can I get OMNI CAD files on CD?
A. OMNI has CD's with both 2-D and Solid files. We can fill most people's needs.

Q. Can I get a mold base with a different pocket than what you have in the catalog?
A. Yes. That is what we call a special. We use all standard OMNI plates and make new A or B plates with the pocket you need. These are quoted on a per order basis.

Q. Will OMNI complete the mold base with all ejector pin holes, water lines, side locks, and cavity screw holes according to my print?
A. Yes. That is a new service with OMNI. We will do all the finish work as noted after you finish your design around one of our standard moldbases and ship out in just 5 to 7 days.

Q. Do all OMNI mold bases come with pockets already in them?
A. Yes. The idea behind OMNI is to work around a standard to reduce costs and lead times. We have multiple pocket options available as well as plate thickness options.

Q. What if I need greaseless bushings?
A. Just let us know when you place your order. We will quote a new price and ship your mold base with the correct bushings.

Q. I will be using a Hot Runner. How do I order an OMNI mold base this way?
A. We have made all our interface information available in our newest catalog. All the information your hot runner manufacturer will need to interface with OMNI is there so that the hot half will bolt right up when received from your hot runner supplier. All OMNI will need from you, is the locations of the drops so we can alter the mold base accordingly.

Q. How do I find the best fit for my application?
A. OMNI offers a free preliminary layout service. Just send a file of your part to us and we will return a layout showing your part in one of our systems. This is the quickest and easiest way for you to get started.

Q. Will OMNI build a custom mold base to my prints?
A. Although OMNI prefers to stick with our own standards, we realize that many of our customers prefer our quality and service over others'. Because of this we have started to do some custom work as long as it is with in our size ranges.

Q. What type of finish work is required with Versa-Slides?
A. We leave .005 stock on critical dimensions to allow for final fitting of the slides in your pockets and for final shut off. These areas are noted in our catalog.

Q. Is there any real advantage to using OMNI Versa-Slides instead of making custom slides in house?
A. Depending on whether you are a molder or mold maker the advantages vary. For molders, the advantage is that if you have an accident in the machine and destroy all or part of a slide unit, you can call and OMNI can send replacements. Because of our very tight tolerances the new parts will fit right into the existing mold. This can greatly reduce down time. For mold makers the advantage is that the cost of a Versa-Slide versus making a custom slide from scratch is much less. It is also much quicker because the design is done as well as 95% of the finish grinding.

Q. Can I use OMNI's Versa-Slides in my custom designs?
A. Yes. Versa-Slides are very versatile and can be easily adapted to any design.

Q. Can I order just components from your slide assemblies, or do I have to order a complete assembly?
A. Yes you can order individual components. An OMNI rep. will be happy to help with part numbers.

Q. If I have questions, is there someone I can talk to?
A. Absolutely! We have a tech support staff that is made up of past mold designers and mold makers, who all know the OMNI product line very well. You can count on getting intelligent answers to all your product related questions.

Q. What is the normal delivery time for OMNI products?
A. All OMNI products are completely inventoried. We ship the day after you place an order for a mold base and the same day for components, if ordered by 12:00 noon eastern time.
